Arsenal have been checking on Vitesse Arnhem goalkeeper Piet Velthuizen, according to reports in Holland.
Velthuizen is rated as one of the most promising keepers in Europe and has established himself as Vitesse's first choice this season.
The 21-year-old committed his future to the club before Christmas when signing a contract extension through to 2011.
He has been linked with Feyenoord, but was watched by an Arsenal scout during Vitesse's 2-2 draw with Ajax on Sunday.
The Gunners could bring in a new keeper in the summer, with German veteran Jens Lehmann expected to leave the club.
Ajax's No.1 Maarten Stekelenburg featured in that game and he is also highly rated on the continent.
Stekelenburg recently admitted he was happy to stay at Ajax after being mooted as a target for Arsenal's North London rivals Tottenham Hotspur.
Can't they just buy a proven keeper? We need one right now!
