Arsene Wenger is sure that Theo Walcott will soon discover his scoring boots for Arsenal. The 18-year-old speed demon has failed to reach the heights since arriving in north London as the most expensive 16-year-old in the history of British football, and in fact has failed to score a league goal in almost two years for the club.
“Walcott does need a goal but Eduardo was a bit in the same situation and Fabregas was a long time in the same situation,” said Wenger, referring to the fact that on-fire Eduardo had to wait five months for his first Premier League goals, while Fabregas fired more than his fair share of blanks when he first arrived at the club.
“The goal will come when it is not an obsession. But the longer it lasts, the more it becomes an obsession,” Wenger added.
“It will come the day maybe he doesn’t think it comes. He will score.”
Walcott left Southampton for Arsenal in January 2006 for an initial fee of £5m, rising to a possible £12m based on appearances for club and country. He has scored only three goals for the Gunners so far, one his first in the Carling Cup Final against Chelsea, and the other two during the 7-0 Champions League routing of Slavia Prague.
