Eduardo’s cool, calculated and clinical finishing at Everton on Saturday reminded Arsène Wenger of Robbie Fowler.
In the 1990s, the Liverpool striker was renowned as one of most efficient chance-converters in English football, averaging a goal every other game in 265 appearances for the Anfield club.
EduardoÂ’s overall tally is now a healthy nine in 12 starts and six run-outs from the bench but his brace at Goodison Park were his first in the Premier League. They could turn out to be breakthrough strikes and afterwards drew comparisons with one of that cityÂ’s favourite sons.
“Eduardo has the look of a young Robbie Fowler in his finishing attitude,” said Wenger. “He has short control, a short backlift and quick finishing. It does not always look spectacular but it is always out of reach of the goalkeeper.
“I think these goals could be important for his confidence because he is still adapting to the English game. You could see that because he had a difficult first half but he scored two away at Blackburn and two at Everton so that tells you he is something special.”
