Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger believes his side were the only team who played to win in the 0-0 draw with Portsmouth at Fratton Park.
The Gunners required three points to overhaul Manchester United at the top of the Premier League table, but a winning goal proved out of reach on the South Coast.
And Wenger was left frustrated by Portsmouth's tactics after watching his side held to their first stalemate the season.
"They (Portsmouth) defended very well, they were organised not to concede," Wenger told Sky Sports 1.
Surprise
"It was a surprise. Their whole midfield was focused on defending and we were not creative enough to find an opening.
"It was a very good defensive performance, their minds were completely on defending. We were not at our best today but gave absolutely everything.
"Credit to Portsmouth, they made it difficult for us. They played in one half of the pitch. I don't think offensively they had a special performance, they played with 10 players at the back and in the end they got the maximum they could from this kind of game.''
Meanwhile, Wenger insists he is not overly concerned by Arsenal's failure to return to the summit of the table after watching his side slip one point behind United.
"We would prefer to be at the top but it is very tight - only one point," he concluded. -

seriously i do not know though why arsenal could not score.
mostly likely its because as a team they do not know how to play against portsmouth style to create more dangerous attack
in short, arsenal is not good enough in the match. if they are more careful in the passing, telepathy and running into position, they would definintely score goals. -
One thing i dun understand is the ball is already pass to them in the opponents penalty box, so why Arsenal keep trying those fast one-two pass

They made alot of redundant passes in the penalty box
and pls bench eboue, he is really no gd, waste so many chances, cant even cross properly.
I tink we would have 2 goals if he can cross properly... coz the keeper already out of position
Adebayor again, try to pass one too many, and lousy dribbling skills.. i already said he sux liao, and one of u, say i sux instead

My man of the match is clichy, he save a certain goal from portsmouth and his running speed is amazing
Alumnia had a good game, rosicky today not bad, though he miss a clear cut chance
but the biggest miss of the century is GALLAS
he was like 5 M from the goalpost, the goal post was like so BIG
and yet he can balloon the ball over the bar
Its easier to score than to miss lor
And wad a stupid tactic again. 4-5-1
Wenger is super stubborn
that tactic is not gd at all, as it had shown in the past matches
and bendner was gd, did u see him racing in the penalty box, creating passes
For chris sake, start him early as a striker

its a shame gunners dropped points at portsmouth... adebayor need another partner at least cos tink he not gd enuff as lone striker... yup eboue can cross but he is not the creative winger sort for tis game... in tis sort of games wheres eduardo n rvp? y they not even in bench? wenger made wrong tactics for playing 4-5-1.... they should change back to 4-4-2 soon as everyteam will use portsmouth's tactics from now... hope tis is a lesson for wenger... season still got half way to go....

He was seriously injured during tt time..and he had problems with his girlfriendS. how could wenger dropped him? and when he was back..AW let him play. the match is very disappointing n boring. our boys seem to be having off-day after xmas. in fact it is the worst performance considering the fact we have all our 1st-team playing.
fabregas is one of guilty one who kept passing ball to opponents. n our boys seem to be scare of scoring dat they keep passing the ball to one another???
even though portsmouth players play defensive in the box the whole time, our boys should try aiming for goals outside the box rite? dun have to pass the ball everytime to ade especially he sux.
n this ade seem disappearing the whole time... where is his usual self when he chase the ball from opponents? he should quit football if arsenal lose BPL becos of him!
the result prove fatal for us as now we r chasing instead of leading. hopefully this will wake the boys up for being complacent.
wenger need to buy a star striker tis coming january. ade simply too ordinary n dun seem to be the type scoring goals, plus RVP is too injury-prone, somemore now our midfielders seem to be goal-shy too. -
