*Wenger - Results speak volumes for Grant*Arsène Wenger used the term “discreet but efficient” to describe Chelsea’s progress since the departure of Jose Mourinho — perhaps the same description could be applied to his successor.
Maybe Avram Grant does not ‘hold court’ at press conferences in the manner of the Portuguese. But when you have presided over a record of P17 W12 D4 L1 since taking over perhaps that does all your talking for you.
It is no surprise for Wenger to have seen Chelsea haul themselves back into the title contention. He argues they were a good side pre-Mourinho and they have not got worse post-Mourinho.
"At the moment they have been discreet but efficient” said the Frenchman. “Avram Grant has got a completely different profile, he is not very noisy. But his team is efficient and that is important. I believe his results speak for him.
“He has done well. Credit to him. But you cannot expect that someone who is 52 and has been coaching his whole life will have the team suddenly collapse under him and stop winning games.
“Before Mourinho arrived what was Chelsea? Second in the League to a team that didn't lose a game and in the Semi-Final of the Champions League. They already had good results. Mourinho brought them up to win the title but they always had good teams before that.
“Grant has done very well and credit to him and in fairness he's got a four-year contract so people must see he is doing something right.”
