Arsenal right back Bacary Sagna has declared The Gunners have been boosted by the pre season critics claiming they would not finish in the top four.
The former Auxerre defender, who was voted in Ligue 1Â’s best XI last term, has been called up by France coach Raymond Domenech for the next Euro 2008 qualifiers against Faroe Islands and Lithuania.
The versatile defender, who imposed himself as soon as he arrived at the London club, has revealed The Gunners have used the critics as a spur this term.
There had been widespread criticism of the clubÂ’s decision to sell Thierry Henry in the summer and Sagna says the players have moved to silence their detractors.
“We did not expect to be top and to experience such a start,” he said during a press conference at Clairefontaine training ground. “We are a talented young team.
“The pre season critics gave us some energy.
“People tell me that our football is flamboyant, impressive and quick. That is right, sometimes I watch it.
“This league is more engaged than the French one, it never stops.
“We have seen at the weekend (during the 3-2 win against Sunderland) that with a little less effort it can go against us.”
