Arsenal striker Emmanuel Adebayor is hoping that Arsenal's performances so far this season will change people's attitudes about the team's capabilities and earn them some respect from the critics.
At this early stage of the season Arsenal's Togolese striker Emmanuel Adebayor is more interested in recognition for the way the team is playing than in possible trophies next Spring.
Adebayor is in fine form, having scored six goals in his last three Premier League games, but is mindful of what the UK media were saying about Arsenal in the Summer.
Before the season began Arsène Wenger’s side were widely considered to be in imminent danger of tumbling out of the top four in a season of post-Thierry Henry struggle.
But now they are receiving plaudits after a strong start to the campaign.
And Adebayor, who hit the first Emirates Stadium hat-trick when bagging three of Arsenal's five goals in last weekend's rout of Derby County, told he Gunners' official website, www.arsenal.com, that at this stage, he was much more interested in changing opinions than talking about possible titles.
“I don’t care about that,” he said. “I don’t want people to think that we will win the title or the Champions League. I just want them to respect us for what we are doing at the moment.
“I think they [are altering their attitudes]. Recently I read the newspapers and people are changing a little bit. In the summer it was very difficult. We just want to prove to people that they are wrong so at the moment we just will keep our focus and do our job.”
The season is still only six weeks old, and over he course of the next six weeks, Arsenal will face Liverpool and Manchester United, two direct title rivals.
Adebayor said: “A lot of people say that these will be test games. But then when we played against Sevilla people said it was a test game.
“For me there are no test games. We just go out and try to win.”
wow, this man is really a true gooner. he really is.
