Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has stated he will not dip into his hefty war chest in January just for the sake of it.
The Gunners boss has a reported £70million at his fingertips following a healthy financial year that saw the club's turnover rise to more than £200million.
Wenger is wary of spending for the sake of it as he believes the bigger clubs need to hold back some emergency funds in case of an injury crisis or if a purchase needs to be made quickly.
When asked whether Arsenal will be getting out the chequebook come January, Wenger told Arsenal TV Online: "Only if it's needed.
"The money is there to help you create a good team. When you feel that you have a good team you do not necessarily need to spend it.
"At a big club like ours you need funds available for emergency cases, like if you have a lot of injuries. Or if at some stage you need to make a quick buy therefore you have to use the money as wisely as possible."
Wenger is naturally delighted the club are strengthening their financial position, but admits he prefers to spend his time focusing on matters on the pitch.
"Well personally I'd prefer to be just top of the league because the finances usually follow the sporting side," he continued.
"I think they are the priorities at the club, we want to focus on what is important on the pitch and knowing if we do that well the finances will follow.
"I'm happy that we've got a good operating profit, but operating profit is not profit. It shows that the turnover of the club is fantastic and that we have made a step forward by moving into the new stadium."
