Emmanuel Adebayor is determined to repay the faith shown in him by Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger.
The Togo striker struggled to hold down a regular place in the Arsenal side when Thierry Henry was at the club, but Wenger has promised he will have plenty of chances this season.
Adebayor produced an impressive performance in the 3-0 victory over Sevilla to follow up his two goals against Tottenham, and is looking forward to playing a key role this season.
"The manager has said already that I have my chance to play now," said Adebayor, signed by Wenger from Monaco in January 2006.
"I have to prove to him that he is not wrong, that is the most important thing.
"At the moment I am doing my best and it is going well."
Team comes first
"But the most important thing is the team - if I score 100 goals and we do not win anything, that is rubbish, but I can score 10 goals and we win a lot of things."
Adebayor is confident that he and Robin van Persie are capable of providing the goals that Arsenal have relied on from Henry in recent seasons.
"When Thierry left, guys like me and Robin van Persie knew that we were going to play, so our concentration goes another way," he explained.
"With Thierry, we knew he would score 30 goals in a season.
"We do not have anyone who we are sure can score 30 goals, so we have to put our heart in the game and do our maximum."
i think if Rvp knows how to cope with the pressure of defenders man marking him..he can get at least 25 goals whereas adebayor..if he knows where the goalnet is..why not at least 20 goals?
