As a young player at Arsenal you get used to a very particular style of football. Jay Simpson, who left the Gunners in August for a loan spell at Millwall, is one such player, and he is relishing the chance of learning a very different approach at his new club.
“It is a lot different from being at Arsenal,” he told Arsenal.com. “We like to keep the ball on the floor here but there we are desperate for a result so we are under pressure to win in any way we can.”
Simpson scored in the opening game of the Reserve League season at Fulham but was more than happy to temporarily ply his trade elsewhere.
“It’s good for me to play at that level and if the Club want me to go back out again then I am happy to do that,” he said. “If they want me to stay though I will and work hard for the team.”
Of his time at Millwall the youngster is upbeat about the progress he is making despite a string of bad results.
“It definitely helps dealing with the pressure of the crowd getting on your back as well as the manager,” said Simpson.
“There, everyone is playing for their careers so it’s a different kind of pressure. For me it’s good to go into that environment and see what this kind of football is all about.”
Simpson will return to Arsenal in January.
