Jens Lehmann reportedly tried to engineer a move out of Arsenal before the transfer window slammed shut on Friday.
After two high-profile mistakes, the German goalkeeper has lost his status as the Gunners' designated number one and reputedly demanded a transfer last week.
'One of Lehman's old clubs, Schalke, were keen on bringing him home but time ran out for the deal to be agreed and for Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger to sign a replacement,' claims The Daily Mail.
Officially missing due to injury, Lehmann was once again a spectator as Manuel Alumnia took custody of Arsenal's goal against Portsmouth on Sunday.
The 37-year-old is understood to have stormed out of Arsenal's training ground after being told by Wenger that Alumina would start against Manchester City on August 26, and the Mail claims that he 'stormed away for the second time in a week on Tuesday' after hearing he was to be overlooked again for the midweek match against Sparta Prague.
