Gilberto has revealed that he has cleared the air with Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger over his decision to award the captains armband to William Gallas when it had seemed expected that the Brazilian would get the honour.
The midfielder had been widely tipped to be named club captain following Thierry Henry's departure to Barcelona this summer, but while Gilberto was clearly unhappy with the decision it will not lead him to seek a move away from North London.
"Me and Arsene spoke face to face about it and sorted it out. It's important we have everything clear," said the 30-year-old.
"I have to respect that. I cannot change his feelings.
"I have to carry on and do my job like I always have and help the team.
"This is an important season for all of us at the club."
He added: "The important thing for me is to finish well the rest of my contract at Arsenal."
