CNB officers arrested a suspected trafficker and his drug supplier in an operation mounted on 8 November 2006, as part of vigorous and deterrent enforcement action in the continued fight against drugs. A total of 71.95 grams of ketamine and 10 Erimin-5 tablets, with a street value of over S$3,600.00, were seized in this operation.
On 8 November 2006 at about 1945 hours, CNB officers arrested a suspected trafficker at the carpark of Blk 15 Hougang Ave 3, minutes after he sold about 51.28 grams of ketamine to an undercover officer. A search was conducted and another 0.67 grams of ketamine was seized from the suspect. His drug supplier who was in a vehicle parked nearby was also arrested. Prior to the transaction with the undercover officer, the trafficker was seen approaching his supplier to obtain drugs.
A follow-up raid was conducted at the residences of the suspected trafficker and his supplier. At the supplierÂ’s residence located at Blk 524 Hougang Ave 6, a note book and cash amounting to $710, believed to be from illegal money lending, was seized.
At about 2300 hours, the drug supplier requested to go to the toilet. Whilst in the toilet, alert CNB officers heard sounds of packet wrappings and conducted a search on the suspect. Another 10 Erimin-5 tablets and about 20 grams of ketamine were found hidden in his bermudas.
The suspected trafficker is a 34-year-old male Chinese who works as a store man. He is traced for driving offences, theft in dwelling, robbery and possession and consumption of a controlled drug. His urine tested positive for benzodiazepines. The trafficker has been charged for the offence of trafficking in a controlled drug. His supplier is a 23-year-old male Chinese who is a stall owner. He is traced for rioting, unlawfully obtaining, possessing or making use of a forged I/C and consumption of a controlled drug. His urine tested positive for amphetamine and benzodiazepines. The supplier is investigated for the offence of trafficking in a controlled drug. If convicted, both suspects will face a minimum sentence of 5 years imprisonment and 5 strokes of the cane.
CNB will continue with vigorous enforcement efforts to detect and deter illicit drug activities and will take firm action against both drug traffickers and abusers alike.
