CNB officers arrested two suspected Subutex traffickers on 10 November 2006, as part of vigorous and deterrent enforcement action in the continued fight against drugs. A total of 240 Subutex tablets and about 14.5 grams of heroin, with a street value of over S$17,000.00, were seized in this operation.
On 10 November 2006 at about 2105 hours, CNB officers arrested a suspected trafficker near the Woodlands Civic Centre, minutes after he sold two 8mg Subutex tablets to an undercover officer. His girlfriend who was nearby was also arrested. In a follow-up raid, CNB officers seized another 69 8mg Subutex tablets, 169 2mg Subutex tablets, about 14.5 grams of heroin, 9 tablets suspected to be controlled drugs and 27 cartons of contraband cigarettes from the suspects.
The suspected trafficker is a 35-year-old male Singaporean Pakistani. He is traced for possession and consumption of a controlled drug, failing to report for urine test, theft in dwelling and outrage of modesty. His girlfriend is a 34-year-old female Singaporean Malay. Both suspects are unemployed and their urine tested positive for opiates. The suspects have been charged for the offence of trafficking in a controlled drug. If convicted, the male suspect will face a minimum sentence of 5 years imprisonment and 5 strokes of the cane, while the female suspect will face a minimum sentence of 5 years imprisonment. The Criminal Procedure Code provides that women shall not be caned. The contraband cigarettes will be referred to the Singapore Customs for further investigation.
