Do you originate from Tong An? Can you speak the Tong An dialect? Tong An dialect is a Hokkien dialect and is slightly different from Amoy Hokkien.
The speaker Mr. Yu is giving a talk on Hokkien dialect. If you can join, please turn up. Attending the Seminar is free of charge. -
Jimei district is another area nearby or in the vincity of Amoy town(Xiamen City) and it is an important area where there are schools and education centres. Many patriots who valued education had set up heritage places for the future generations such as the University of Jemei and Xiamen.
Example: Tan Lark Sye ( 陳å…使/Tan Lark Sye, 1896 ~ 1972)
Tan Lark Sye came from the same village as Tan Kah Kee, Jimei of Tong an County of Fujian Province.
Born into a peasant family of seven of very limited means, and orphaned young, he had little chance of an education before he made his way to Nanyang in his teens in 1916 together with his brothers.

Tan Kah Kee: the Founding Father of Xiamen University
Xiamen University was founded in 1921, the first university in China to be established by an Overseas Chinese leader. Mr. Tan Kah-Kee was the pioneer of private education in China, spending his entire fortune in support of education in his native country. Tan Kah-Kee is an inspirational figure in China’s history of education, and was described by Mao Zedong as a “Standard-bearer of the Overseas Chinese and Glory of the Nation”. He was the first President of the China Overseas Chinese League, and outstanding Overseas Chinese leader, a great patriot, and an eminent entrepreneur, educator and social activist.
Standard-bearer of the Overseas Chinese and Glory of the NationTan Kah-Kee was born on October 21st, 1874 in Jimei, in what was then Tong’an County in Fujian Province—currently Jimei District of Xiamen. He was born into an Overseas Chinese family, and was sent to a private school at the age of 7, to be educated in the traditional Chinese manner. He left China for Singapore at the age of 17 to work in his father’s business. He took over the company in 1904, but eventually it failed. In 1916, he started his own business in rubber planting and processing. By 1925, Tan Kah-Kee had become famous as an entrepreneur, known as one of the four founders of the “Malaya Rubber Kingdom” in Singapore.

Unified or not, does not matter with dialectal classification.
You might as well say, since Thai language and Lao language are 1 family, why not unify Thailand and Laos?
Or Czech language, Slovak language, near to each other. Go unify Czech & Slovakia again?
Or Swedish language, Norwegian language, Danish language, near to each other. Go unify Sweden, Norway, Denmark?
Or Pakistani language, Hindi language, near to each other. Go unify Pakistan & India?

If you unify countries on the basis of language, then you should also split countries on the basis of language.
Example:
The Uyghur people of Xinjiang in China speaks Uyghur. Therefore Xinjiang should be cut-out from China.
The Tibetans of Tibet in China speaks Tibetan. Therefore Tibet should be cut-out from China.
The Balinese of Bali in Indonesia speaks Balinese. Therefore Bali should be expelled from Indonesia.
In the Netherlands, there are about 50%-50% factions of French-speaking and Dutch-speaking (Walloon) population. The country should split up.
In Turkey, the eastern portion of the country speaks Kurdish. Therefore, the independence movement of the Kurds for the country of Kurdistan is legitimate and they should be cut-out from Turkey to form their own country.
Is this what you mean?
So therefore, why should Quemoy unify with China since Quemoy is Quemoy-Hokkien speaking while China is Mandarin-National-Tongue?
