Nope.
When Grabcar surge, ppl book taxis. Grab lose customer. So now Grab convinced their partners Transcab and Premier to surge together also. Song Song gao Jurong.
In this way, they all huat together. Understand bo?
Ppl go take Uber? Uber will also surge with the high demand from pax who gets turned off by Grab and Taxi surge.
Bottomline, when surge, all surge together. Pax got no choice one. Won't take MRT or Bus cos raining or late for work. The companies are not stupid.
Only the pax are silly for supporting them. Now is payback time.
Oligopoly becomes Monopoly. Monopoly means suka suka increase price. Like your 30% water price increase.
Only CDG is the counter force now. Either way, they win.
If CDG dun implement surge and Grab, Uber,Transcab/Premier surge, CDG calls will burst and all CDG drivers will be song song gao Jurong.
If CDG implement surge, then they also huat together with the rest.
Win - Win.
So to answer Jasonlkl, if grab/transcab/premier surge, then CDG drivers will benefit cos all the calls will come in. So you know who to join now.
LAI LIAO LAI LIAO...
CDG Implement surge pricing liao. Huat ar.
wonder how the surge pricing will be carried out..
seems location surcharge maybe scrapped
Gd then! If price surge till rocket high, drive finish peak hours can close shop liao.
More or less some ppl will boycott taxis once surge pricing starts

when PHV surge, taxi surge, can't afford, too bad. least its fair for the TDs that works hard during peak hours or high demand timings.

well its a matter of time they get used to it. there's no cheaper alternative besides public transport
http://www.tnp.sg/news/singapore/comfort-delgro-applies-use-surge-pricing-taxi-bookings
The Straits Times understands that Comfort DelGro's demand-pegged fares would be different from the surge pricing mechanism.
It intends to simply flash a fare - say, $20 from Ang Mo Kio to Orchard on a Friday evening. The customer may reject this and opt for the metered fare, but it would be uncertain if there would be a cab available.
Industry observers approached by The New Paper think that cabbies would be even more incentivised to rely solely on bookings.
Doesn't that mean that taxi drivers will 'hide' during low demand and come out when demand goes up?Financial consultant Julia Tan
Singapore's high smartphone penetration rate means that most commuters would have no problem switching to bookings over street hails, they said.
But commuters who spoke to The New Paper were worried that surge pricing for taxi bookings would lead to overpriced fares. Financial consultant Julia Tan, 28, said: "If high demand means high pricing, doesn't that mean that taxi drivers will 'hide' during low demand and come out when demand goes up?"
Dr Park Byung Joon, an adjunct associate professor and transport expert at UniSIM, said the move by the taxi companies was "inevitable".
"Some have said that it is impossible for Uber and taxi companies to co-exist. Taxi companies here are becoming like Uber, while Uber, which has partnerships with many car rental companies, acts like a taxi company.
"It is difficult to predict taxi fares, which are purely dependent on market forces, because a lot also depends on commuters' decisions.
"This is definitely interesting for transport researchers, but there is a possibility that commuters might suffer."
Transport economist Michael Li said the taxi companies might be losing their "edge" by applying surge pricing.
He thinks the majority of the taxi firms' current customers, whether they are using the app or hailing a taxi from the street, are probably happy with the current system in terms of its reliability and comfort.
Prof Li said: "The surcharges are a transparent form of pricing, but it remains to be seen if dynamic pricing would be truly beneficial to commuters.
"Price is just one dimension of competition. The incumbents could also choose to leverage on their focus to service."
Dont get so excited. Drive taxi is still a dead end job. Very boring and tiring with not much to look forward to except to end shift, buy 4D and dream of striking jackpot.
Morning titi tio cbd. Evening titi tio cck.

agreed with your views. The new taxi fare structure will not help drivers to earn as before. Taxi industry has become 夕阳行业。Today drive from 7am-4pm,hoot 13 cdg CJ but the income is miserable.
