Pictures first.
hey, mumbai da, india..
something wrong with my reply earlier on, dunno why become gibberish >___>
The cause of the traffic chaos...
Case of road in market...? Or market on the road? Nobody knows
Trucks there are invariably painted colourfully and CNG is widely used here.
Must be the most unique fuel station I came across.
Taken at short notice while travelling to the countryside...supposedly a monument commerating the 1971 War.
Countryside was flat and colourful as the rice and wheat are now ready for harvest before the monsoons.
Of interest to sbst...one of BRTC's B10M DDs...should be MKIV from radiator position. But this a rare sight. Taken while waiting for the rain to stop on the 20th floor of office.
Picturesque.
At my insistence, this cute boy agreed to have his picture taken.
Another villager agreed to have his picture taken as he works on a basket.
A case of someone who used micro-credit to upgrade and eventually graduate from the programme with 2 nice houses and kids studying at University.
The Road of Death...as the locals call.
Monsoon's impending arrival.
In this region, any fair-skin person will be asked: Are you japanese?
The most cheeky ones shouted MOSHI-MOSHI from the window, while the most unabashed asked about the number of siblings one have and if you are married and your educational attainment.
Welcome to the Bangladeshi Curiosity.
It doesn't get closer to getting celebrity status with stares, queries directed at you.
But once one gets used to it and initiate contact with the locals, you'll find them to be extremely helpful and hospitable.
Local police claims that there are ONLY 10 000 rickshaws here at Dhaka....foreigners and locals alike know better.
Looks interesting :)
i won't mind heading there for a hol...looks interesting and definitely different from my run-of-the-mill HK or Bkk
We used to have B10MD as a demo offered to SBS back in the 1980s
Food there isn't quite like India. Roadside stalls are notoriously unhygenic and locals tend to avoid them also.
And the national past-time here is...chatting.

Getting around this place is a real pain...
We wanna go to Chittagong one weekend. But the current political situation is wreaking havoc throughout the city. If traffic jams aren't bad enough!
New photos...but no time to explain now.
Will do it when I can soon.
Now is a little busy.
Week 3 in Bangladesh...
I have long heard of the notorious Indian roads...but apparently the Indian friends I have made here reckon that the roads in Bangladesh is far more dangerous than their home country.
Why?
Just see those pictures that I took of the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway while I was on a rickshaw.
Yes.
That tiny road is considered to be a highway there.
The "normal" "main" roads there outside of the major cities consist of a network of barely paved and even narrower roads that wind through the backyards of people's homes. Trucks and buses are obviously excluded from these tiny roads and have taken to terrorising motorists on the not-very-wide highways.
In fact, a closer examination of the pictures reveal that the road is not wide enough for 2 wide-body vehicles to pass safely without having one to actually put wheels on the dirt at the side!
Not surprisingly, everytime I hit the roads, I see at least 2 langas.
Today was rickshaw flip, and truck flip. Previous times were all head-on crashes.
We always joke that it is possible for the blind to drive here...but not the deaf people.
The first thing one would notice would be how freely the honk is used to let others know of your presence and intentions.
Want to cut lane of another? Honk.
Want to overtake? Honk.
Want to warn someone of presence? Honk.
People here do not hold the round the edges of the steering wheel. Oh no. They hold the insides in the fashion of motorbikes. So that the thumbs can be on the honk 24/7.

Roads aside.
Sunrise here is 5am now. Sunset 6+pm. I'm not used to having the sun rise so early in the morning!
Finally back at SG. Time to post a little more pics....at least those taken before the camera failed.
What's the use of a first world bus with third world driving and manteinance? On my way back from Chittagong to Dhaka, this nice bus that I shelled out 3 x more in price was doing its usual overtaking stunts when the brake on the left rear refused to let go all of a sudden. And so as you can see....we were now stranded awkwardly, in the middle of the road while everyone gawked.
And that's my driver/mechanic at work while the passengers swore around him.
Srimongol at dusk. This little town is in the middle of the vast tea plantations which I had visited during this particular trip. A rather enriching experience. The next day saw me begin the sh!tty 3 days of the runs, but that's another story.
Our little baby taxi getting stuck in the mud! SGreans should seriously be thankful for the proper roads they have. Because Bangladesh do not have as many functional ones.
7-coloured tea that I had. Once was enough though. Because what's nice to look at, is not necessarily nice to taste. And it wasn't cheap. 10 Taka per colour. I think I'll stick to my 1-colour 5 Taka tea, thank you very much.
And we naughty people snuck into this pineapple farm. The farmer was not terribly pleased to see us wandering around his crop. Fortunately we had a Bangla friend to plead on behalf of our curiosity and ignorance.
A maturing pineapple. Mmm-mmm.
i like japan for weird stuffs, sumi masa,
