hmmm....i was missing abalones for a while. Was dreaming about it but never buy even a can.
Was remembering a Chinese new Year, visit a friend at his house and his mother prepared plain porridge, and a can of abalone, the abalone boiled in its canning juice and sliced thinly.
It adds a slight different dimension eaten with plain porridge, preserved chai xin (those glass bottles kind) & a sunny side up egg.
My downstairs hawker centre got a stall sells soup, and their 'fuo tiao chiang' is quite good. S$10 for a dish of baby abalones, scallops, meat & mushroom.
No instant noodles it comes in a box but in those noodle balls... that usually the hawkers ball them up into before cooking...
Talking about porridges... I remember they had fantastic lobster porridge at the old big splash restaurant....

huh. but bo lo pao...singapore have rather decent ones leh. no nid to go to HK for that >.<
when mi at HK, i'd rather eat other things that i cant get in singapore. like...mi mom's 'sister's' fish cake and lotus 'cake'. or this place where it's a wet market on the first 2 floors, but is a hawker centre on the top floor. wootz! hmm....yeah. and other random stuff. mi so many years no go HK oredi. becos cathay stopped giving us free 2 days stopover. but apparently according to some pple, the offer is up again...err...whatever. no like mi can fly to that area any time soon anyway. tsk.
