SINGAPORE : A Singaporean has set a new Guinness World Record for the fastest SMS texting.
The event, organised by SingTel, saw 125 people competing to see who had the fastest thumbs.
They had to use both upper and lower case, and spacing to complete a set text of 160 characters on their mobile phone.
The world record of 1 minute 7 seconds was set by a British man in Australia last September.
But Kimberly Yeo did it in a mere 43.24 seconds, breaking the previous record by an amazing 23 seconds.
"The pressure -- there are a lot of people, the contestants and everyone, so it's very pressurising," she said.
The win also made her S$25,000 richer in cash and prizes.
The first runner-up completed the task just a split second slower in 43.44 seconds.
Singapore has among the highest SMS usage rates in the world, and the organisers say more such competitions will be held in future. - CNA
