SIA computer system went down, causing thousands strained and 12 flights affected.
Delays as SIA check-in system breaks down for 10 minutes
SINGAPORE : Passengers of some ten Singapore Airlines flights out of Changi were delayed for more than two hours on Sunday morning when SIA's computerised check-in system broke down for 10 minutes.
The Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS) says the malfunction was confined only to SIA's check-in system.
Long queues greeted some passengers when they arrived at Terminal 2 for their flights at about 8am.
Some had to queue for more than two hours to check-in when computers went off-line for just 10 minutes at 7.55am.
Passengers then had to be manually checked-in, and when the system came back on-line, long queues had formed as it was the morning peak-hour period.
Several SIA and SilkAir flights were delayed as a result, leaving some passengers annoyed.
"There are people walking around to tell you, but they should have made an announcement to everyone," one said.
"I was very disappointed because Singapore Airlines is so-called the best airline in the world," another said.
But others were more understanding.
"Not disappointed but surprised. I believe some of the time these things will happen," a passenger said.
"Sometimes computers do breakdown, it's not their fault," another added.
SIA says it is investigating the cause of the computer failure.
The breakdown comes a day before the airline makes its first non-stop commercial flight to New York. - CNA
