What problems did you have on your 93SS ?

I'll start the ball rolling:

Problem:
Wrong fuel tank size programmed at factory (58l for 2004 model). Car ran out of gas on carpark ramp...
Fix:
Reprogrammed by TE.

Problem:
Steering wheel electrical connections - audio buttons dead, airbag warning on all the time.
Fix:
Faulty components flown in and replaced by TE.

Problem:
Plastic (paint?) peeling on glovebox release button
Fix:
Will need to bring it in and let TE check.

Problem:
Door handles and guard strips becoming grey...
Fix:
Will need to bring it in and let TE check.

Problem:
Recurring wheel/steering wheel misalignment causes car to steer left-bias
Fix:
Realignment done several times, problem comes back after a while.

Problem:
Squeaky brakes at crawling speeds
Fix:
Brake pads replaced. Don't know if problem will resurface later

Problem:
Engine and/or transmission slight vibration/buzzing at 85kmh at 5th gear (both manual and auto modes), causing squeaks and rattles within dash/doors. Only happens when applying a little gas while cruising and feels like "in the wrong gear", ie should be in 4th instead of 5th.
Fix:
TE still trying to figure it out.

Various aesthetic build quality issues (rear parcel shelf and C-Pillar interior don't line up, bonnet doesn't line with front side panel etc)
Fix:
Can't be fixed It's not an Audi

Terrible audio
Fix:
Replace the stock front dash speakers (step 1). Considering other options for rear speakers (may need separate amp, line converters etc). -
Thats alot of fault for a new car.

Wow, t-r-s, from your list it sounds like you've been having a run of bad luck. Hope things improve soon. On the bright side, it sounds like some other continental brands are not much better! Ha ha!
I'm going to exclude quality-related issues from my list because.. well, it's not an Audi (thanks for the quote t-r-s):

Prob: Squeaky brakes
Fix: TE changed brake pads under warranty
Prob: Passenger door handle stopped working, loose linkage
Fix: Dropped in to TE, fixed in 1/2 hour
Prob: Rear brake light stuck in on position
Fix: Hardware prob, fixed by TE in about 1/2 day
Prob: Dead battery after 9 mths
Fix: Called TE hotline, van showed up in 1/2 hr to change battery under warranty
Prob: Hose from intercooler to engine intake dropped off!
Fix: Fixed it myself with some help from Swede and cousin
Prob: Intermittent rattle from somewhere in dash
Fix: Not fixed yet. TE says it's probably the ventilation motor and is 'normal'. Hah! Didn't have time to pursue it during my last servicing, but if it doesn't stop soon I'm going to go in and make a fuss. -

OK, here goes!
Prob: Squealing brakes.
Fix: Replaced brake pads.
Prob: Rear left door handle fell out.
Fix: Put it back in lor.
Prob: Transmission changes when slowing down clunky.
Fix: Still not fixed. TE's best and latest software still clunky.
Prob: Front suspension bushing noise when going over humps.
Fix: Replace rubber bushing with silicon ones, after one year wait for parts.
Prob: Water vapour in front fog lamps and head lamps.
Fix: Front fog lamps replaced twice, monitoring for head lamps.
Prob: No CD disc numbers in SID and AUX not activated.
Fix: Fixed with Tech2 programming.
Prob: No dead pedal.
Fix: None. Have to buy my own dead pedal and fix it myself.
Prob: Carpet mats wear out very quickly.
Fix: Bought all-season carpets and replaced them.
Prob: Buzzing sound on both front doors.
Fix: Not fixed yet after 14 months. -
Hmm, I'll have to add this to my list too. TE said it was "normal"... maybe they couldn't reproduce it. The noise on mine seems to be from front right springs, and only occurs intermittently.Originally posted by SwedeSport:OK, here goes!

Hi t-r-s, sorry to hear about yr plight w the new 93. Hope the probs can b rectified asap.
I wrote in another tread claiming the 93 to be the best in its class w/o factoring the reliability of it. Seems like it is just as "unpredictable" as the S60 - w/ heaps of faults.
Fingers crossed for Saabee or Saabie whom has just gotten his new wheels.
About the brake pads some of u have mentioned, wouldn't it be a norm for a continental car to be like that w new pads? Was told by the C&C SE when I test drove the A-class. VEry loud cranky noise when the brakes were depressed. She claimed that it was due to new, unworn brake pads which caused the noise. Could TE have changed worn-out pads for u guys instead? Hope not!? Just my doubt & possibly ignorance. -
The brake pads are new, but using a different material.
Most of the problems are part of the first year "hiccups" that every all-new model goes through nowadays.
I believe this problems are caused by rampant platform and parts sharing. Somehow, a part made for another car does not work very well on another car, even though they are made to be so.
Back then when every brand was unique, such problems were few.
That's why Toyota/Lexus make the most reliable cars on the road, and score very high in the initial quality surveys. They don't share their parts with any other brand. Each model is built and designed on its own merits! -
Problem: Wind noise > 90km/hr
Solu : TE replaced my entire windscreen and rear bonnet cover. BTW the wind screen was cracked and the rear bonnet cover was warped. OK now....... Unfortunately there went my V cool as well!
Problem: Battery went dead on me
Solu : Changed. OK now
Problem: Buzzing of door esp after parking under sun
Solu: Solved myself, I can go thru with amyone who is interested the next time we meet. OK now
Problem: Noise from drive train >60km/hr
Solu : Wheel hub bearings changed/tires changed.... Still not solved. TE now ordering intermediate and center bearings for me. Awaiting to get them changed
Problem: flaking of glove box open button
Solu : changed by TE. I think it is a quality problem and will return in a matter of time

Looks like I won't be buying a 9-3 , frankly not acceptable for a new car.
