Hamburg
defender Marcell
Jansen will not be joining Liverpool
this summer, according to the player’s agent.
The Reds will soon
be without a first-team left-back once Emiliano Insua completes his £5
million move to Fiorentina.
PSV’s Carlos Salcido, Royston Drenthe
of Real Madrid and Wigan Athletic defender Maynor Figueroa have all
been linked with a move to Anfield to replace Insua, while Hodgson has
revealed that a new left-back is now his priority in the transfer
market.
Jansen, who scored for Germany against Uruguay in the
third-place play-off at the 2010 World Cup, can also play on the left
wing, but his agent, Gerd vom Bruch, says he is committed to Hamburg.
"The
interest in him is a credit to Marcell," he told the Hamburger
Morgenpost newspaper.
"But he is under contract with
Hamburger SV and will be respecting this."
