  Javier Mascherano is on the verge of submitting a formal transfer request to his current club Liverpool, according to tuttomercatoweb.
  
  The website insists there are increasing signs from England that the 26-year-old will ask to leave the club amidst interest from his former coach Rafael Benitez, who is now at Serie A champions Inter.
  
  Over the past few weeks, the Argentina international's links with the Nerazzurri have continued to increase in the press and on Thursday the player's agent dropped a hint he could be on his way to the San Siro.
  
  Barcelona have also been touted as wanting to sign the former West Ham player, but are seemingly more invested in the ongoing Cesc Fabregas transfer saga with Arsenal. Mascherano joined Liverpool in 2007 and has made over 130 appearances for the club. He is ranked at 305 overall in the Castrol Rankings.
