New signing greeted at Stamford Bridge...
Chelsea goalkeeper Petr Cech has laid out the welcome mat to new signing Yossi Benayoun after he declared him "a very good player."
Benayoun, 30, signed on with the Premier League champions last week on a three-year deal for an undisclosed fee, rumoured to be about £5 million. Although he was in and out of the Liverpool team last season, his eight goals and six assists last season caught the eye of Blues manager Carlo Ancelotti.
Speaking to Sky Sports News, Cech was sure the Israel international would be a smart signing for the Stamford Bridge outfit.
"I think he is a very intelligent player, very technical, different from other types of players we have in the squad," Cech said.
"For me he is a very good player so I think he will be very welcome."
Benayoun is widely believed to be the replacement for out-of-contract England international Joe Cole. The giant shot-stopper expressed his surprise at Chelsea's decision to let go of the midfield schemer.
"Well I was surprised because he's been at Chelsea for many years. I think he's been a great player for us and a great team-mate," Cech added.
"Yossi's a different player, although he is very technical and has skills like Joe Cole, he has got a different type of movement on the pitch and I think this is maybe what the manager wanted."
