Chelsea hope to do business with Liverpool for striker Fernando Torres to the tune of £50 million.
The People says Chelsea boss Carlo Ancelotti is primed to offer £50m for Torres, who looks destined to leave Liverpool after comments this morning from his agent.
Liverpool claim they do not have to sell Spanish striker Torres, but a firm Chelsea offer – with cash up front – would seriously test their resolve. Chelsea have already planned for a future with Torres. He will be on top wages, and will be told that he will not have to play every week.
Carrying the burden of being Liverpool’s only top striker saw Torres succumb regularly to injury last season. Torres may be willing to join a club where he is rotated, along with Didier Drogba and Nicolas Anelka, and which is guaranteed to be in the running for all the major prizes.
Chelsea also want Reds midfielder Javier Mascherano but he is flirting with Rafa Benitez’s Inter Milan and Barcelona and Blues will not pay over the odds or offer a huge salary.
