With Steven Gerrard set to quit Liverpool this summer Manchester City are prepared to make a £40million move for the star midfielder.
City’s owner have permitted the club to go for the Reds skipper and anticipate discussing what it would take to get the England international to come to the City of Manchester Stadium, according to The Mirror.
With Liverpool’s financial difficulties a big offer from City could prove too tempting for the Reds to pass up on.
Rafael Benitez could permit Gerrard’s exit if he gets a guarantee that the funds that Liverpool gain in the deal could be used to strengthen the team in the summer.
After a scoreless draw against Hull City finished a disappointing season for Liverpool, Benitez said that he would not sell his captain or Fernando Torres if he remains with the club.
Spanish giants Real Madrid are also interested in Gerrard, but City will be looking to announce their bid in a few days time and would likely out-bid Real for the 29-year-old star.
This will be interesting... but wat is the chances ?
rafa can let anyone in pool to go now, in exchange for he get the full amount of cash the player got transferred for. yes even torres.
i doubt gerrard will leave liverpool.
Stevie is Mr Liverpool... the REDs icon... Rafa will go himself rather than Stevie leaving Anfield...
predator's out on the prowl again......man city will spoil the market. Maybe a $80m bid for nani? hehe.
Nani for 80 million ? can pay in Malaysian Ringgitt ?
What's the point of selling a top player for the sake of money? Yes, you can use the money to buy another top player... but remember that you are losing a player that is proven to fit in the team, a player able to galvanise the team, a team captain who's respected by all other players at the club.
So what if the manager gets 40mil, and spend it all to buy a star player? Who's to say the star player will fit into the team well? There might seriously be no net gain. The way I see it, Gerrard must stay.
Stevie will leave Liverpool to get his EPL medal before he retired.
The body language for his last few matches have already shown that he is sick of playing with team mates that are below his standards and not winning.
I think he will go chelsea and they will win back to back title if Man Utd do not strengthen their aging squad next season.
As for Arsenal, wenger will still be operating under budget and getting the second and third position.
Liverpool holds too many unknowns as Ah Ben seems to be determined to stick around.
