Javier Mascherano's advisers have reportedly negotiated salary terms with Barcelona in advance of a transfer fee being agreed with Liverpool.
The Sunday Express also claims that the Reds are holding out for £36million from the European champions for their star Argentina international midfielder, but are likely to accept £30million at the end of the season.
If true, the news of Mascherano's impending departure will come as another blow to Anfield fans who have already seen their team slump to seventh in the Premier League table after 12 games and stand on the brink of Champions League elimination.
The Sunday Express report says the defensive midfielder has set his heart on a move to the Nou Camp and would prefer to switch clubs in January, but the Reds intend to keep hold of him until at least the summer transfer window.
Regardless of Mascherano's exit date, recent talks between his agents and the Spanish giants are said to have concluded in a £100,000-a-week wage agreement. The tough-tackling 25-year-old currently earns around £60,000-a-week on Merseyside, with his contract due to expire in 2012, and has rejected offers of a new £90,000-a-week deal.
Barca are also seeking to sign Manchester City forward Robinho, who is keen to return to Spain having failed to settle in England.
Ya la have to go .
is he worth 36m? if alonso is worth 30m, he must be around that figure, plus minus. he is younger than alonso as well.
Barcelona scare already.... Scare Madrid win them... Scare lose the UCL league...
But hopefully Ah Ben can spend the money wisely. See if they continue their dismay form then come January if Mascherano really leaves and Ah Ben would get 36 million. Since Liverpool would most probably be out UCL but still in European competition, they cannot afford to buy players that are cup tight. And most good players are cup tied. Then Ah Ben would have no choice but to pluck some unknowns from dont know where. Then spent silly money again.
I seriously hope that Ah Ben can save liverpool this season, because I want the Big 4 to be Big 4. I dont like what Big 6, Big 7 or Big 8, or worst the New Big 4, or Big 2. I just want the same old Big 4!!!
one by one
DMF also sold to Spainish Clubs
Barcelona got yaya toure, why would they want to buy him for that huge amount of money? they also got keita who can play in that position what. or they can bring one from their reserves.

If he goes... who we depending on to break opponent's attacks? Lucas?
Looks like Liverpool going to finish mid table this season and wins NOTHING.

Maybe Rafa thinks that since Lucas cannot score goals or create chances, then let him become a holding midfielder like Mascha.
No point having 2 defensive midfielders in every game - so sell off one and keep his favourite in the team.
barca also got sergio busquets
Ahh, i would dismiss such talks until such story comes out from Masch's mouth himself.
He's a guaranteed first team player, whenever available, playing in front of the wonderful KOP, working with a top pedigree manager, feeding world class forwards like Gerarrd and Torres and it's not like his position as an Argentinian captain is in threat by playing for Liverpool, so why talks of his impendinf exit?
I sense his agent trying to up Masch's value and get a substantial wage increase, (so agent gets a good fee as well) by floating these hundreds of thousands into the papers. I think it's the same agent that stirs up the story about unhappy players in the Reds' dressing room too.
Bah.
his celebration after "his" goal agst the Blues does tell much abt him leaving...
hope he stays or at least stay quiet till season ends.
Hmm, to me it was sort of a didn't really want to leave unless he's forced to (contract negotiations).
Hope he stays.
