Rafa Benitez is hopeful of having Steven Gerrard back for Saturday's trip to Fulham.
The skipper won't feature against Arsenal on Wednesday night due to a groin injury sustained on international duty.
But Benitez told Liverpoolfc.tv: "Gerrard will not be available for this game but he is improving, so hopefully he can be ready for Saturday."
Martin Kelly (ankle) and Albert Riera (hamstring) are also out and will not be available for one or two weeks.
There is better news for Benitez in that both Andrea Dossena and Sotirios Kyrgiakos could feature in the Carling Cup fourth round clash after recovering from knocks.
Benitez added: "Dossena has been training and will be in the squad. It was one or two small things with him.
"Kyrgiakos has been training. We had bad news when everyone was talking about him being out for six months after the internationals. It wasn't that bad because now he's training and he's available too."
Meanwhile, both Glen Johnson and Fernando Torres came through Sunday's victory over Manchester United without troubling previous injuries.
Benitez said: "It was difficult for both especially because it was a tough game, but they were training and we were taking care of them.
"Now they are training and I think they'll be available for the next games."
What about aqualini? Will he be ready?
he played as sub for arsenal match during e mid-wk cup competition
he likely to feature as a sub again today
Rafa Benitez will be without both Glen Johnson and Steven Gerrard for this weekend's trip to Fulham - though the Liverpool manager is hopeful Fernando Torres can again lead the line up front.
Gerrard has failed to recover from a groin injury sustained earlier this month on international duty, while Johnson suffered a small tear in his calf this week.
Meanwhile, Alberto Aquilani is also a doubt after picking up a virus following his debut against Arsenal in midweek.
Benitez told Liverpoolfc.tv: "Gerrard still has a problem with his groin so he won't be available this weekend.
"At this moment he's working with the physios. He has to keep working and we'll decide next week how he progresses.
"Johnson has a small tear in his calf, so we will lose him for maybe one week."
On Aquilani, Benitez added: "In terms of fitness he's doing well. His ankle is coming on well. The problem we have now is that he has a virus, so it will be difficult for him to be available.
"We will see this afternoon how he feels but he was a little bit sick yesterday.
"He wanted to play against Arsenal and was really pleased to go. He wants to go and play against Fulham but we'll have to decide how he feels."
Benitez will also have to do without both Martin Kelly (ankle) and Albert Riera (hamstring) for the journey south.
However, the boss is hoping Fernando Torres will be able to make an impact after he returned with a match-winning display against Manchester United.
Benitez said: "He is improving. He's been training and working with the physios. We will see if he is a little bit better this weekend. It's a difficult situation because if you play games, you often don't have too much time to get fit again."
wtf .... second string team , well almost against Fulham , and 0-1 down .
Degen played ( omg ) , Voronin played , Kerygiakos , Insua , Lucas .
Not likely Liverpool to go on and win .
Could be either 1-1 , or 0-1 .
Yeah Torres equaliser .
its not an easy match against fulham at their own den. torres is the saviour again, but can he lasts the whole match and do not break down. there is a worry he may get break down and be out for a few weeks if not months. next week midweek against lyon away is a make or break match for liverpool. lose that match and liverpool is out of the CL.
Yr team gone case liao.. 2-1
thank you benitez
first Torres was substituted and now Benayoun, the most creative player was sub out. now liverpool is down to 10 players, gone case. a loss today after last week euphoria, back tp square one. no improvement really. win big team last week and losing to a mid team this week.
was the player who just replaced benayoun, sent off for a lunging tackle? if he was, he was on the field for like, less than 1 min nia lol.
carragher was sent off, he was lucky not to be sent off last week. liverpool down to 9 men now. red card is 3 matches suspension? siao liao.

But I will say Fulham is really toughnut to crack. Their record against all rich/strong team is impressive. They draw with Man City, lost to Man Utd by 1-2 but seige Man Utd in old trafford(So far no team manage to seige Man Utd at Old Trafford and only them). Same case against Arsenal, make them suffer to secure a 0-1 victory.
I will not be surprised they beat Liverpool.
Degen sent-off for that ? No , that just a yellow , not red card offense .
Carragher got the ball , but the ref saw nothing .
Anyway , 3-1 2-1 , still a lost .
basically now the whole team is mostly reserves , serve Rafa right , how can he make such ridiculous decision for a match like that ?
I mean unless he has lyon in mind .
someone please knock benitez head..!!
dunno why he substitute benoyoun..!
when he kept Skrtel , Agger out , and Sub Torres and Yossi , how can he expect to win at Fulham ?
liverpool is seriously in danger of not finishing top 4 this season. it it is a jehyll and hyde team every week. last week beat man u and this week lose to fulham.
will rafa's fate be sealed if it loses to lyon and out of CL in midweek?
not forgetting Johnson and Aurelio
I really dun mind if Rafa join Real Madrid .
Ah Ben can forget about Lyon.
He can go back to Spain.
He screwed up the partner with Jamie.
Voronin was plain useless.
Lucas back to earth.
He tinkered too much with his back four.
The players were saving their legs also.
Ah Ben have himself to be blamed for the "depth" of shit he have created for himself.
ok , it's ok Liverpool lost .
But 1st time Liverpool see 2 reds .
I remember what the commentator said during the Liverpool vs Man Utd match....
Against big teams, they play macam star...... against small fry, they so gabra.
Okay, Fulham isn't exactly small fry..... but they ain't Man Utd, either.
:( the supporters were fantastic did you guys hear ynwa at the 91st min???
so sad for them and torres :(
