Aquilani ahead of schedule
Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez has revealed that new signing Alberto Aquilani could be training with the Reds in two to three weeks.
The Italian international joined the Anfield outfit from Roma for €20 million earlier this summer following the €30 million sale of Xabi Alonso to Real Madrid. However, the 25-year-old arrived on Merseyside having already undergone ankle surgery that was expected to keep him out of action for around two months.
But Benitez has confirmed that, following lengthy rehabilitation work in both the gym and swimming pool, Aquilani is ahead of schedule and could be ready to begin training with his new team-mates in just a fortnight.
"Aquilani has improved, he has progressed in the way that we expected and now maybe in two or three weeks we will see him training," he said. "Then we will see how he progresses, but the last scan he had was very good."
