Jamie Carragher is confident Liverpool will improve enough over the next 12 days to get 2009-10 off to a flyer at White Hart Lane.
The Reds were beaten 3-0 by Espanyol at the weekend and now have two friendly games to put things right ahead of a tricky season opener against Spurs on August 16.
Carragher said: "Obviously it was only a pre-season game but it was still a disappointing result for us because you never want to get beat.
"If you look at the first 20 minutes to half an hour then I suppose we were chasing shadows a bit during that spell and that's all credit to them.
"From our point of view, we've still got a few players coming back into it and I think we felt it in the conditions out there.
"But sometimes in a game of football you lose and you just have to hold your hands up and admit that you were beaten by the better side on the night. This was one of those occasions, so full credit to them. They played very well.
"It was a mixture of things really; it just wasn't our night but it's getting closer to the season now and we've got a couple of weeks to put it right.
"That's what these games are all about, though, and hopefully we'll be ready when the season kicks off."
Sunday's game saw Pepe Reina and Fernando Torres make their first starts of the summer following their Confederations Cup escapades.
Carragher added: "It's good that they came back because they are two of our big players, one at one end of the pitch and one at the other.
"That's one of the positives to come out of it that a couple of players have had the chance to build up their match fitness and hopefully it will all come together by the time we come up against Tottenham."
Confirm Tottenham play Peter Crouch against his former club...

Rafa Benitez is hopeful of having centre-back pair Jamie Carragher and Martin Skrtel fit for the Barclays Premier League opener on Sunday - though Steven Gerrard faces a race against time to face Tottenham.
Carragher limped off following a knock to the ankle during Liverpool's last pre-season friendly with Atletico Madrid, while Skrtel has been suffering from a hamstring injury.
News of their improvement comes as a major boost to Benitez, who is likely to be without the injured Daniel Agger this weekend.
The boss told his pre-match press conference: "Skrtel trained yesterday and hopefully he'll be fit. Carragher has been working with the physios today and we think he'll be available. Agger is also working with the physios but it will be more difficult for him."
Gerrard pulled out of England's friendly international with Holland this week due to a tight groin.
Benitez added: "I am really pleased because Mr Capello wanted to protect players. Because Gerrard had a problem they did a scan and pulled him out of the squad. We don't know if he'll be fit. He was working with the physios yesterday and today.
"If the game would have been on Saturday it would be difficult but because it's on Sunday he could have a chance."
2 teams of the Top-3 last season struggles for a slim win .
I think Liverpool will also win by odd goal .
Peter Crouch and Keane to haunt us ......
28minutes , 0-0 , not impress with L'pool's play ....
I not really comfortable seeing Lucas And Insua in their position , like no stable .
Babel also not sparkling ......
I think tottenham will win. After all, its white hart lane.
Gerrard in the central midfielde , Lucas attacking midfielder , but where is the attack ???
It's a very good Spurs' goal ...... they deserve it .
Liv'pool not creating chances.. poor play in general. wonder if they will buck up to nick this?
the defence is shaky, with little protection from the midfield. let alone feeding the strikers.
lucas good enough to replace alonso? think again.
with more desires from the spurs end, i think they are the more deserving winner tonight.
Wah.. tottenham score again.. 2-1.
where is those creations ?
fuck type display from L'pool .
glen johnson is my best liverpool player tonight .
even torres is not showing much form.
i guess his words must have spur them on, claiming that this is the sorta game they must win.
still dont see any presence of liverpool midfield. only see 3 strikers and 6 defenders.
Torres a bit out of sort , like very tired .
in a way, its good. let liverpool players and managers have a sense of reality right from the very beginning.
interestingly, spurs can never replicate this kinda performance against chelsea and man utd.
