REINA: WE WERE BEST IN COUNTRY
Pepe Reina believes Liverpool were the best side in the country over the last few months of 2008-09 - but admits lessons need to be learned from earlier in the campaign if the title is to come back to Anfield next term.
The Reds won 10 and drew one of their last 11 league games to take the title race to the penultimate weekend - something the club had not achieved since 1990.
Such form couldn't make up for a series of home draws earlier in the season which Reina believes cost him and his teammates the most coveted prize in English football.
"In the last month, month and a half we've probably been the best side in the country," the Spanish goalkeeper told Liverpoolfc.tv. "But it's not enough - you have to be the best for 10 months.
"We are happy because we're getting closer and closer to the top but unhappy because we haven't won the title so far. A team like Liverpool has to fight for and win the title.
"It is frustrating that we've drawn so many games, mainly at Anfield. That's been the difference to be honest this season. We have a better goal difference and have lost fewer games than United.
"Also against the top four we have been superb this season. We have got 14 points out of 18, so it's been a great season for us in terms of competing.
"The fans should be confident for next season because I think we've improved in many, many areas."
yup definitely agree.
although predict alot of other fans would have alot to say about the title..
