SINGAPORE: Ex-Liverpool player Robbie Fowler has said he is not playing retirement football in Australia.
The 34-year-old striker, who starts with new team North Queensland
Fury, said he is serious about playing with the Australian outfit.
He said: "I have come over to Australia, not just for retirement. I
want to do well and the fact is that I am older and travelled a long
way to get to Australia. (This) proves that I do want to do it."
And scoring goals is what Fowler's fans will be expecting of him,
when he takes to the field with his Australian team in Singapore.
Fowler has scored more than 120 goals during his nine years at Anfield.
Fowler last played in Singapore during Liverpool's 2001 trip to the Lion City.
While the Liverpool native has never won the English league title
with the "Reds", he predicts that Liverpool can do better next season,
after finishing second this year.
Fowler and his Australian team will be playing a friendly against
S.League's Tampines Rovers on Sunday at the Jalan Besar Stadium. The
Australians are using the match as a tune-up for the A League, which
begins in August.
Prior to the match, there will be a friendly game involving local celebrities and ex-internationals like Abbas Saad.
Kick-off for the friendly game on Sunday is at 7.30pm, while the charity curtain raiser will be played two hours earlier.
