Martin O'Neill has warned Liverpool they will have to pay over £10million if they want to sign Gareth Barry this summer
The 28-year-old is once again the subject of transfer speculation following last summer's saga with Liverpool, who have once again ignited their interest in the England international.
The central midfielder has just one year left on his current contract but has reportedly been offered a new lucrative deal by Villa in a bid to persuade him to stay.
The contract offer comes despite O'Neill admitting he wouldn't stand in Barry's way if he wanted to leave the club for Champions League football.
However, O'Neill says he won't let the Villa star leave on the cheap and it looks as though Liverpool will have to go close to matching the £18million offer they made for Barry last summer.
"The price obviously with a year left to run is a different issue," said O'Neill.
"But by the same token he is an England international player, he has captained his country and he is still only 28 years old.
"He wouldn't come cheaply even in this day and age."
£10million ?
Thanks Mr O'Neill , then u can keep him for another season , another year , and we see what happen ?
More than $10 million for a guy who can only give 4 more years of his best football to the club? And whats so good about Barry? Never heard of him until Liverpool shown interest in him.
Please dont sign him, please alonso, gerrard and mascherano. Sign a striker and winger instead. Maybe a defender too.

Wait he sign for new deal, how?
Aston Villa have confirmed that star midfielder Gareth Barry is in talks with Manchester City over a proposed transfer to Eastlands.
Barry's current contract with expires in 12 months and he has been offered a lucrative new deal to keep him at Villa Park. Manager Martin O'Neill and Villa owner
Randy Learner had both said they would be willing to run down the 28-year-old's existing contract if it meant keeping him for another season.
However, on Tuesday a Villa spokesman said: "Aston Villa can confirm today that Gareth Barry is in talks with Manchester City.''
City are expected to embark on a massive spending spree this summer but the fact that Barry is considering a move to join up with Mark Hughes' side still comes as a surprise.
Barry has previously expressed his desire to join a club in the Champions League but City finished six places and 22 points behind this season's top four, all of whom qualified for Europe's top club competition.
City did not even qualify for next season's revamped Europa League with Everton, Villa and Fulham claiming the three places for English clubs.
Barry is currently preparing for England's World Cup qualifiers with Kazakhstan and Andorra and was not expected to make a decision on his future until late next week.
Barry said he's 28 , wanting to play UCL football ....
Can Man City do that immediately ?
The most if Man City win the BPL next season , latest he can play will be when he's 30 .
For only one season ... but to join Liverpool , next season guarantee UCL football , and a possibilty to win it .
Chances of Man City winning the UCL win be something 1-500 for Man City !!!
let's hope Barry wake up his senses ...
Unless the $$$ issues , then he may go !!! We cannot match those $$$ from the Arabs .
.....
Barry go lia0
Thanks Barry for those speculations .. about only wanting to join Liverpool for UCL football , now we know , it's not just football alone , it's something else he pursue .
