Liverpool legend Tommy Smith has claimed that his former side should focus on winning the European Cup and inferred that winning the league title does not bring the same rewards as in years gone by. Smith, who made 467 appearances for the Reds between 1962-1978, is excited by Rafael Benitez’s tactical capabilities in Europe and believes that victory over Real Madrid should have a positive effect on the club’s stuttering morale.
Speaking to the Liverpool Echo, Smith made clear, “Everyone’s delighted we are in the lead at half way with that away goal, but we’ve still got a lot of work to do.”
"It’s clear to me that Rafael Benitez excels in European football, whereas he has yet to master the League.
"Part of the problem is that perhaps these days winning the English league doesn’t matter as much as it used to. It’s simply getting into the Champions League which counts and you only have to finish in the top four for that.
"Don’t get me wrong – I desperately want to see us winning our own league like everyone else. But the only difference between finishing first and fourth these days is that you get a medal.
"All the top sides get Champions League football so maybe that is a factor. But whatever, Tuesday will be a cracking occasion."
No , i don't agree with Mr Smith , EPL is the ultimate price asset we must get .
Yes, for so many years it has passed us by, this season we still have a chance. I would rather we win the league than the European Champions League.
I think we need one more striker like Torres in order to have a chance to get the league title. We are still goal shy in BPL.
Champions League would be nice to have but we already got one recently, let's get the BPL title.
Wow, we thrashed Real Madrid 4-0. Lets see if we can keep that form against Man Utd.

But we seemed to have a mgr that is super brilliant in Europe and not-so-fantastic in England .
That is only 1 answer : Being the Best League in the world , competition is very tight !!
I would say any mid-table team in England can beat any other Champions outside England .

The bad omen is : when we did well in Europe , we'll flop the next domestic fixture .
i would prefer us to win the EPL first, then CL again
if can, win both at the same time i also don mind lar
EPL more important, we must get back our bragging rights and upkeep our record.
