Liverpool striker Fernando Torres was honoured for his class and quality on the pitch last night, as the Spanish sensation walked away with the Northwest Football Premier League player of the year award last night.
The Spanish striker was named Premier League player of the year at the Northwest Football Awards in Manchester last night.
Torres told the ECHO: “I am really honoured to win this award but it is down to my manager, my team mates and the fans for the support they have given me since I moved to Liverpool. They helped me to settle in so quickly and it is a tribute to them that people outside the club believe I did well enough to deserve this.
“The support I have had from the fans has been fantastic and I would like to dedicate this award to them in particular. Hopefully the next prize we are celebrating will be for the whole club.”
Torres beat off the challenge of Manchester United’s Cristiano Ronaldo, Everton’s Joleon Lescott and Manchester City’s Richard Dunne to the award. (Liverpool ECHO)
