1 Litre of Tears has got to be one of the best dramas I have ever watched this year, it's almost perfect. Everything about it is just beautiful and to come across a drama this good, I feel extremely lucky. Here's a synopsis of the said drama:
This beautifully moving drama is based on the real-life struggles of a 15-year-old girl named Aya who suffered from an incurable disease, but lived life to the fullest until her death at 25. The script is based on the diary Aya kept writing until she could no longer hold a pen. The book that later followed entitled “One Litre of Tears" has sold over 1.1 million copies in Japan alone.
Aya's only wish was “to live." By carefully depicting Aya's earnest desire to live, and the love of her family, friends, and lover, the drama, “One Litre of Tears" wishes to deliver her simple but strong message: “Just being alive is such a lovely and wonderful thing." ---Fuji TV
It's a pretty simple story that does a great job touching the hearts it's audience. It's realistic and does not go overboard with the angst whatsoever, it's just right. The emotion you feel from watching this drama is really amazing. Every episode you get to learn something from Aya, her family and friends. Also, if there's one thing I should comment on -- it's Haruto and Aya's realtionship, they happen to share a very deep understanding of one another, and the drama depicts it so well. None of that extra mushy stuff, I felt really happy that Haruto has learned so much from Aya. By episode 8 I was crying so much.
