The Show Segment
ACT 1
This Act begins with Singapore as a small fishing village founded by Sang Nila Utama and unfolds the story of Singapore till its founding by Sir Stamford Raffles. Watch out for colourful costumes by MOE and the Merdeka Lion rising majestically from the center stage. Measuring 4m by 3m, this majestic figurine represents the symbolic sighting by Sang Nila Utama which led to the naming of the island "Singapura". 812 participants from the Ministry of Education will make this rich history lesson come alive. -

ACT 2
Act 2 serves to be visually stunning and aims to capture the imagination and senses of the audience. Incorporating elaborate dance moves, formations and sound from the mass display, Act 2 will feature 10 tableaus depicting the different facets of our nation as well as showcasing our very best and brightest talents in Singapore's 40 Years of Nation Building.
Anchored by People's Association, this Act showcases Singapore's progress during 40 years of Nation Building. Ten dazzling tableaus will chronicle the making of our nation, starting from the pioneer days to the modern Singapore that we have today. around 800 members from the People's Association will don four distinctively coloured costumes, representing our multi-ethnic nation.
The Highlight in Act 2 will be the tableau procession, which features the multi-ethnic composition of the nation as well as the accomplishment/progress of key aspects of Singapore's 40 years of nation building. The tableau will be brought onto the field for all spectators to have a close up view. -
Act 3 comes alive through an exuberant mass dance by night latern and aerobatic lights display, "Soaring to Greater Heights" portrays our hopes and aspirations for our nation's future. It highlights our collective desire to build Singapore to become "A Vibrant City of the World", "A Land of Opportunities and Promises" and "An Open and Inclusive Society".
This item will be performed by 1,130 participants from Singapore SOKA Association (SSA) consisting 800 females and 330 male participants, age ranging from 30-50 years old.
Key Highlights of Act 3 are:
An energetic and lively dance to reflect a vibrant nation.
A lantern performance to portray a land of opportunities and promises.
Remote controlled kites performance to symbolise teh theme "Soaring to Greater Heights" -
The Grand Finale will be the culmination of all three Acts and will bring together all the performers back to the Padang. The "Well Wishes From The Heartlands" banners will be brought onto the field to represent the commitment from all Singaoporeans to shape Singapore's future with their hands. The nation can sing and dance as Singapore Idol, Taufik and actress Rui En sing the NDP theme song, "Reach Out for the Skies". The five celebratory locations will then join in singing of a medley of national songs, the National Anthem and taking the Pledge. 40 pledge takers, representing the five pillars of Total Defence, will lead Singaporeans in taking the pledge. Of course, no NDP grand finale is complete without a dazzling array of fireworks to round off Singapore's 40th birthday bash.
