Wierd poly with NO School of Business....

Notice that all 4 other polytechnics in Singapore (i.e SP, NP, NYP, TP) have their own School of Business, and have their own business-orientated courses offered in their polytechnics, but not REPUBLIC POLYTECHNIC....
As a Year 2, Diploma in Business Computing, I'm very(3x) utterly disappointed with their Diploma in both Business Computing and Business Application course.
All thanks to RP and their intensive PBL, PBL and PBL style....
Machiam like everything also taught in a PBL way, EVERY courses, EVERY modules are done in the same way.. All the programming modules such as Object Orientated Programming (Java) and the Yr 1 module with Visual Basic are NOT spared too..
And i can see that RP is not business-orientated in terms of offering courses with business modules for RP students, and I especially hate to attend the module briefing for Year 2, ZERO modules in Year 2 are business-orientated modules, their Year 2 modules are 100% I.T-orientated instead...
I would like to hear all your views about this especially for those in either DBC (Diploma in Business Computing) or DBA (Diploma in Business Application)... -

Yeah.. I can't adapt to the PBL style.
Luckily next year I'm transfer out, leaving you'all to suffer in RP.

Singapore schools are gibing more emphasis on I T coz there's anticipation of the I T industry exploding in the next coupla years. Dip in business is far too general and won't get you very far. With the growth in the IT industry, however, it's expected for there to be demand for all lrvels of I T people......

Frankly speaking, I don't think RP will even consider to have one business school. Simply because we are too tech-oriented. I believe RP is heading towards IT or Engineering or Sports to create a niche.
IT is very probable, because the school is hinting that the 4 specializations under Diploma of Info Tech will be split. In fact, Multimedia Computing is set to split into one diploma of its own pretty soon.
Sports - don't need to guess, Sports School is nearby. If you have read the news, RP and Sports School inked some sort of agreement.
Engineering - pretty straight-forward. Pure IT only produce techies, the engineers have to repair the goodies.
I just wish they stop the first year modules, it's totally unrelated and waste time. RJ alone is enough to give us enough soft skills, coupled with PBL. -

To think my team today (as of Tuesday) still laugh about why RP no School of Business one... and we all said that next year (Year 3) don't even touch any single IT related modules for electives and freely chosen modules... And next time when go out and work, don't ever choose any IT orientated jobs liao... Hmm, I think no SB will lose out the centre of attraction, like SP's SB, every guy wants to climb up that 'mountain' and see the opposite sex.
Wah, macham like expedition. I also get tired by climbing that hundred metres slope at 1 in 5 gradient.
But the visit to ur school makes it feel like some museum. Not much like school. Japanese designer mah, no choice.That Japanese design does not really apply well here.

Not really. It depends on what industry you are talking about. Business companies like banks would preferably hire someone who know the industry inside-out as well as technology. -
